Meet Pragati – Application Developer at Singtel

Published 08 Feb 2021 by Calvin Nisban

“Every day is a new learning journey.”

These are the words of wisdom accorded to us by Pragati, who joined our Singtel family as an Application Developer through our TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) Mid-Career Advance Programme.

As an individual, Pragati is a passionate and analytical problem solver who is keen to accept any challenges to learn and improve herself as a software developer. To her, the TeSA Mid-Career Advance Programme is the golden opportunity to learn and invest in her future. It presented her with the opportunity to learn from wonderful mentors and apply newly acquired knowledge to real-life scenarios. Through this, she is able to value-add to existing processes and solutions, providing a breath of fresh perspective.

Learning while on a job also allows Pragati to reinforce the concepts she learnt and helps her find more meaning and fullfilment in learning.

The Many Joys in Life (and at Work)

We asked Pragati what she enjoys about her role as an Application Developer, here’s her response:

“I have the chance to be at the forefront of technological advancement, where I get a seat in the pilot cockpit to steer and drive this advancement.”

Having left the industry for a considerable amount of time, she is continuously fascinated by how much it has changed since her return. The development of a digital future may be coming sooner than everyone else had expected, and this rapid evolution kindles her passion to continue learning and gain insights from her job on a daily basis.

“I’m a visual person and being able to see my efforts come to fruition in front of me is tremendously satisfying.”

The ability to materialise ideas and concepts makes Pragati feels like a changemaker, contributing and doing her part to help us advance closer to the digitised society that we envision.

“I also enjoy the dynamic nature of my work. Challenges come in all shapes and sizes, and there are no difficulties I can’t overcome as long as I set my heart on it.”

Be it the constant need to raise her technical skills to keep up with technological evolution, or the need to find and implement a novel solution to solve problems, Pragati revels in the challenges she faces. She relishes these challenges and emerges victorious every time, dubbing them as perfect learning opportunities.

TeS-a, Best-a

To Pragati, the training provided under the TeSA programme encompasses both the technical skills required to complete her job and general knowledge to perform in her role. For example, in addition to learning the frameworks needed for the role, Pragati’s training also included modules such as Agile Development and Business Communication. In addition, there is also a strong emphasis on personal growth and development during the training, which lends for a holistic learning experience.

Pragati urges individuals who are on the fence about a mid-career switch to apply for the programme.

“It’s all for you to gain, with nothing to lose!”

A Word of Gratitude

Pragati would like to extend her gratitude to two persons on her team, whom she says are the reasons she enjoys her work so much. First would be her boss, Sajith Arimbra, for always encouraging her to learn and providing her with opportunities and challenges to apply her knowledge and skills. Next would be her team lead and mentor, Swapnil Bukkawar, for painstakingly helping her understand the technology and guiding her.

Pragati would also like to thank Vimalkumar Sivalingam, Hieu Nguyen Van, and Ong Siow Geok, for always setting aside valuable time to answer her questions or offer her help whenever she needed it.
